Blind Date Disaster: When a Woman’s Test of Generosity Goes Terribly Wrong

When a woman’s plan took an unexpected turn, her attempt to assess her date’s generosity became a memorable mishap. The woman, Miss Zhang, decided to bring along 23 family members on a blind date, hoping to test her date’s willingness to share and support her family. However, the outcome was far from what she had anticipated.

Miss Zhang’s approach, though bold, was poorly conceived. Her date, Mr. Liu, had kindly offered to take her out to one of his favorite restaurants. But when he arrived, he was stunned to find that not only was Miss Zhang present, but she had also brought her entire extended family, totaling 23 people. Faced with such an overwhelming group, Mr. Liu was understandably taken aback and objected to covering the cost of what had now become a massive family gathering.

The incident, reported by the local newspaper Taizhou Evening News, occurred at a restaurant in Zhejiang province, located in eastern China. Miss Zhang’s intentions were to evaluate Mr. Liu’s generosity and his potential willingness to support her family. However, the execution of her plan was deeply flawed, particularly given that it was a blind date.

As the meal progressed, it became evident that Mr. Liu did not share Miss Zhang’s view of what constituted generosity. Instead of quietly footing the bill, he chose to leave the restaurant without a word, effectively abandoning Miss Zhang and her family to manage the situation on their own. The dinner, which ended up costing a hefty 20,000 yuan (approximately $3,100), was now Miss Zhang’s responsibility alone—a harsh conclusion to her ill-conceived test.

Unwilling to accept this outcome, Miss Zhang decided to take legal action against Mr. Liu, feeling betrayed by how the blind date had unfolded. The court, however, ruled that Mr. Liu was only responsible for paying 1,400 yuan of the total bill, a fraction of the overall cost.

In hindsight, Miss Zhang’s attempt to measure her date’s generosity proved both costly and unsuccessful. While her intentions might have been rooted in a desire to understand Mr. Liu’s character, her method backfired spectacularly. This episode serves as a powerful reminder that effective communication and honesty are far more important in any relationship than elaborate tests of character.
