Becoming a parent is a life-altering experience that stays with you forever. Suddenly, there’s a tiny human relying on you for guidance, love, and support. The joy of welcoming a child is something that all parents cherish, but for Adriana Iliescu, her journey into motherhood came with global headlines and unique challenges.
In 2005, Adriana Iliescu made international news when she became the world’s oldest mother at 66 years old. Her daughter, Eliza, was born after years of perseverance and unwavering hope. Adriana’s joy knew no limits when Eliza came into her life, making her a symbol of dedication and love. Now, nearly two decades later, the mother-daughter duo has returned to the spotlight as new photos of Eliza gain attention online.
When Eliza was born, her arrival was more than just a personal milestone—it was a historic event. Adriana’s late motherhood earned her a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Despite the widespread media frenzy, Adriana remained steadfast, focusing on her new role as a mother while gracefully handling the criticisms thrown her way.
In an interview with the Daily Mail back in 2010, Adriana addressed the backlash she faced. Many people thought her decision to have a child at such an advanced age was selfish. However, Adriana dismissed the criticism, expressing that she felt young at heart. “The mirror may not be kind, but in terms of energy, I feel like I’m 27,” she shared. She emphasized her health and vitality, noting she was in better shape than many women half her age.
As Eliza grew up, Adriana and her daughter developed a close bond. Eliza is described as cheerful and lively, qualities that have brought even more joy to Adriana’s life. Despite the societal judgments, Adriana believes she is a devoted mother who always prioritizes Eliza’s well-being.
Adriana’s journey to motherhood wasn’t easy. When she was younger, Adriana had to terminate her pregnancy due to medical reasons. At 24, her husband left her, leading her to focus on her career as a university lecturer in Romania. It wasn’t until the age of 57 that Adriana decided to pursue motherhood through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Sadly, her first attempt in 2000 was unsuccessful.
Unfazed by the setbacks, Adriana sought the help of Dr. Bogdan Marinescu in Bucharest. After years of trying, Adriana finally became pregnant with triplets, but only one survived—the resilient Eliza. Born prematurely, Eliza spent some time in the NICU, but soon blossomed into a strong and healthy child.
Adriana’s deep faith played a significant role in her life. Despite criticism from religious groups, she ensured Eliza was baptized, even though some nuns viewed her as an anomaly. Adriana, however, firmly believes that Eliza is a blessing from above.
Fast forward to 2022, and Adriana, now 83, continues to live an active life. She has authored over 25 children’s books and still lectures part-time in Bucharest. Despite being mistaken for Eliza’s grandmother, Adriana remains full of energy and joy. She’s ensured Eliza’s future is secure, appointing Dr. Marinescu as Eliza’s godfather and legal guardian if anything were to happen to her.
Eliza, now 17, is a bright student with aspirations for higher education. Following in her mother’s academic footsteps, she is excelling in her studies, proving that her future is as bright as her mother’s unwavering hope had envisioned. Despite their challenges, Adriana and Eliza have created a beautiful life together, defying all odds.
